Preparing for the Summer- Plumbing Tips:
Here in South Florida we live in the summer most of the year but when we approach closer to May and June our temperatures rise even more! Here are some tips to help you prepare for the summer to make sure you're taking care of your plumbing.

Washing Machine Maintenance
a tip on keeping your washing machine in tip top shape

More outdoor fun means more dirty clothes. Be sure to check your washing machine hoses for bulges, leaks or cracks and be sure to remove dryer lint regularly. Remember, washing machine hoses should be replaced approximately every three years.

Clogged Disposal
a tip on maintaning your disposal

Usually during this time everyone is having more cookout and barbeques, so one thing we need to keep in mind is disposing of all leftovers and waste. Avoid pouring grease down the drain after grilling out since this can clog the pipes.
Run cold water at full pressure for 15 seconds before and after you put anything down the disposal to flush it through. Never put instant stuffing, potato mixes or similar “just-add-water” foods down the drain—they'll create an instant clog when you add water.

Sewer Line Backup
what to do to maintain your sewer line

Here in South Florida summer is also a bit wet. We experience extra showers and thunderstorms. Due to the extra rain, this can get into the sewer pipes through cracks and cause a back up in your sewer line. If you see any signs of sewer line trouble such as water from the toilet backing up into the bathtub drain, call a qualified plumber right away. He or she may recommend a sewer line replacement if the damage is extensive.

Clogged Toilets
tips on toilet maintenace

Even though school is still in session and the kids are counting the down the days for summer break, start prepping the family now. During the summer toilets are used more since the kids are home and usually friends are too. Teach your kids to use modest amount of toilet paper and to flush only after they use the bathroom. This will help avoid severe clogging, usually it is simple to clear but if it does gets extensive a professional would be best to bring in.
Schedule Regular Inspections
Remember! The best defense to ensuring your plumbing systems are running properly is to schedule annual maintenance inspections, and keep on top of your systems before it’s too late, or when you need them most.
